  Drowes Salmon Fishery News

Last Days Of February

25 February 2010

The water level has dropped to under .5 metres on the gauge. The weather has been dry but very cold during the week and fishing effort was limited as a result. Two fish were reported on Tuesday. Alan Walls had a 7lbs fish on a Cascade from the corner of the Blackwater and Ryan Dunlop had a fish of over 8lbs on a self tied Willie Gunn from the Meadow.
There is a full moon on Sunday and large tides at the start of next week. A little fresh water would be welcome as the river is unseasonably low for late February.

Weather Outlook.

Today
Overnight outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow will clear away into the Irish Sea early this morning to give a mostly dry day, with some sunny spells. A few showers too though, mainly affecting Ulster and Connacht. Cold like recent days, with highest temperatures ranging just 4 to 7 degrees, and little or no wind.

Tonight
Staying mostly dry tonight with clear spells, but mist and fog in places too. A slight frost will develop, along with a few icy stretches. Some wintry showers too, mainly over Ulster. Lowest temperatures -2 to +2 degrees, with just light variable breezes.

Tomorrow
Further wintry showers across Ulster tomorrow, giving some accumulations, mainly over higher ground. Elsewhere mostly dry, with bright or sunny spells and just scattered showers. Highest temperatures 3 to 8 degrees, coldest further north of the country. Winds will be light to moderate variable.

Outlook
The cold weather will persist this weekend, lasting well into the early days of next week. Though there will be some occasional wintry showers, there’ll be a good deal of dry weather too, with some sunny spells breaking through. FRIDAY NIGHT: Cold and largely dry, with clear spells especially further south of the country. However later in the night outbreaks of rain will begin to feed down across the north and northwest. Some frost and icy patches too, with lowest temperatures -2 to +2 degrees, and light to moderate variable breezes. SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy over Ulster, with some outbreaks of rain here. Drier elsewhere, with showers well scattered, and becoming brighter everywhere as the day goes on. Highest temperatures 4 to 8 or 9 degrees, coldest further north of the country, with mainly moderate variable breezes. SUNDAY: Some frost to start, but becoming rather windy, with some rain affecting the southeast. Elsewhere mostly dry with some sunny spells and isolated showers. Highest temperatures 4 to 7 degrees, cooler than recent days along southern counties, with fresh to strong northeast breezes. MONDAY: Starting off extremely cold and frosty. Many areas dry with bright or sunny spells though, and little or no wind. Similar temperatures to recent days, with highs of 4 to 8 degrees.
