Today was the wettest day of the year so far. Water levels were just below .4 metres this morning, just below .5 metres this evening and will probably be above .6 metres by morning. Grilse fishing has remained steady over the last number of days with good numbers of fish in the 3 to 4 lbs range taken all over the river and fish are still running in good numbers. A number of large, what appear to be sea trout have been taken over the past week from the Sea Pool and up river as far as Briney’s Pool. The river is not known for sea trout, especially of such large sizes, all of these fish have been six pounds plus. Scale samples have been taken and we await confirmation of the exact origin of these large fish. The fish have been taken, mainly on fly but also spinner and shrimp.

Weather Outlook.
Today
This evening, scattered thundery showers will give further localised downpours, while more prolonged and sometimes heavy rain persists in west Ulster and much of Connaught. Tonight, most of the rain and showers will clear southeastwards but some showers will remain in the east and southeast. Moderate to fresh, north to northwest winds will extend countrywide and it will turn cooler; lowest temperatures 9 to 13 degrees Celsius.
Tomorrow
Showers in the east and southeast will die out on Thursday morning. The rest of the country will be dry throughout and widespread sunshine will develop. Moderate or locally fresh, north to northwest winds will slacken during the day and it will feel warm in sunshine; highest temperatures 15 to 19 degrees Celsius, coolest on northern coasts.
Outlook
Friday will bring good sunny spells and it’ll be dry, apart from a few showers. It’ll be milder than recent days with highest temperatures 17 to 20 degrees in light breezes. During Friday evening and Friday night it’ll turn cloudier with some patchy rain developing, more especially in the West and Southwest. Saturday will be warm and quite humid with occasional light rain or drizzle likely. Highest temperatures will range 18 to 21 degrees in a light southwesterly breeze. Sunday will be a degree or two warmer again with light west to southwest breezes. There will still be a little patchy light rain or drizzle in places but many areas will be dry with some bright or sunny spells developing.
