Low Water

6 March 2010

Water levels are exceptionally low for spring at just above .4 metres on the gauge. The river is at summer level following an almost entirely dry new year and continuing cold and frosty conditions which look set to persist for much of the coming week.
Fishing has been very slow in the past week with one 10lbs fish reported by Slovakian angler Ino Valustu from the Trout Pool on flying c last Saturday the 27th of February and nothing further reported until today when 2 fish were taken from below Lennox’s Bridge, both of around 10lbs. Trevor Hassan had his fish from Rooney’s Turn on flying c and B. Razzian had his fish on worm from the Money Hole.

Low Water At The Island This Evening.

Weather Outlook.

Today
Continuing dry this evening though mostly cloudy.

Tonight
Apart from the small chance of an isolated light shower near southeast coasts, tonight will be dry. Cloud amounts will vary, but a sharp ground frost will develop where skies are clear. Lowest temperatures + 2 to – 3 degrees – coldest well inland.

Tomorrow
Tomorrow Sunday will be dry everywhere, with variable small amounts of cloud and good sunny spells. It will feel cold due to a chilly southeast breeze. Highest temperatures 5 to 9 degrees.

Outlook
OUTLOOK: Further spring like weather during the week ahead, with high pressure close by. It will be on the cool side, but largely if not completely dry, with some frosty nights in store. SUNDAY NIGHT: Turning very cold with a sharp or severe frost developing under clear skies, especially over Connacht and Ulster. Some mist and fog too. Lowest temperatures 0 to – 6 degrees, with just light southeasterly breezes. MONDAY/TUESDAY/WEDNESDAY: Most if not all areas will be dry and bright with good sunny spells, though probably a mix of cloud and sunshine by Wednesday. Temperatures still on the cool side, but feeling very pleasant in sunshine, with highs of 6 to 9 degrees. Winds will be mainly light southeasterly, but fresher at times near the south and southwest coast. By night will turn cold and frosty, with mist and fog lingering into the day across some areas.
