Temperatures have dropped substantially this week bringing the first frosts of the year. The water level has dropped to 0.76 metres on the gauge at the Four Masters’ Bridge. A sea liced fish estimated at 7lbs was reported caught and released on spinner from the Upper Mill Pool yesterday.
The forecast for the weekend is for a small rise in temperatures and outbreaks of rain.

Today
Very cold overnight with widespread frost, severe in places and the risk of icy patches with overnight lows of 0 to -5 degrees generally, but temperatures holding around 2 or 3 degrees on parts of the west coast, where a freshening southerly breeze will bring cloud and patchy rain around dawn.
Tomorrow
Cloudy tomorrow with scattered outbreaks of rain or sleet extending eastwards over the western half of the country with some snow on hills. Mostly dry in the east with bright spells and frost clearing gradually.
Outlook
General : Less cold over the weekend, with some rain at times, but still some slight frosts also.
Friday night : Some rain in the evening, but drying out for a time early in the night, with clear spells. Lows of -1 to plus 3 C., are expected , with some frost and ice in places. But more cloudy, misty weather, with rain, is expected to move in from the Atlantic later on.
Saturday : A cloudy breezy day, with rain and drizzle in all areas for a time, some of it persistent and heavy. Highs of 5 to 9 C., in fresh southerly winds.
Saturday night : The cloud and rain will clear into the Irish Sea early Saturday night, so that the rest of the night will turn cold with lowest temperatures of -1 to plus 3 C. Frost will form in the clearance, soon becoming sharp, with some icy patches likely. Some fog may develop before dawn also.
Sunday : A cold start with frost and icy patches in places. Dry and bright for a time, with sunny spells, but cloudy, misty, damp weather, will spread from the Atlantic in the afternoon and evening. But present indications suggest that amounts of rainfall will be quite small. Top temperatures 7 to 9 C.
Sunday night : Cool overnight with some clear spells developing. Lowest temperatures of plus 1 to 4 C., with a slight frost in places and some patches of mist and fog can be expected also.
Monday to Wednesday : Temperatures near normal or slightly above, with mainly dry settled weather. Some bright or sunny spells by day, but cloudy periods also and cool enough at night for possibly some slight frosts.
